The thoughts of home repair is stressful enough. Considering all of the time and money needed to make these renovations happen, most people run for the mountains. Now, image taking on the project yourself, and to make things worse, the repairs are extensive & expensive. Stressful… right? Well it doesn’t always have to be. We’ve got 3 tips that will help eliminate the stress and home repair headaches.
#1: Barter/ Trade Goods or Services
One of the oldest ways people would exchange goods or services for is bartering. Bartering in simpler terms just means trading. If you don’t have the energy to do the work yourself, consider trading the work to someone who is willing to. Try reaching out to family or friends to see if they may be interested in trading their home repair services for something that you have. This “thing” can be a “good”, a physical item, or a service that you can provide in exchange for the service. If that won’t work, try publishing a classified ad on craigslist or a similar website.
#2: Market for a Sponsorship
If you don’t want to pick up a hammer, try picking up the telephone instead. You’ll need to make a lot of calls to local businesses to find out if they would be interested in sponsoring your project. Let them know what you’re doing and why you are reaching out. Local businesses can contribute in a sponsorship by providing funding for your project, materials or labor afterwards, reach out with local news networks and pitch them a local story on an “ugly duckling house repair journey”. If you get the commitment from the news network, you would later display your sponsors logos somewhere throughout the video.
#3: Eliminate Home Repairs & Sell Your House As-Is For Cash
Getting a home repaired entirely from start to finish can be a very difficult task. Instead, you might consider ditching the stress entirely and leave all of the work to a cash home buyer. Cash home buyers usually purchase houses as-is, so sellers don’t have to worry about a single repair. The process is very simple in comparison to traditional ways of selling a home. Cash home buyers have the ability to purchase houses quickly, closing on the property in under 30 days. Cash home buyers will typically pay sellers below market value, but when taking into consideration holding fee’s for 90+ days on the market to sell, some sellers don’t mind taking a fair loss for the convenience. Holding fees vary from mortgage costs on 3-4+ months, property maintenance fees, utilities, repairs, realtor and broker commissions and more.
Too many home repair issues can be a headache, but there are creative solutions that can be implemented to make it easier. Get creative and find someone that can do the project for you at a discount or in exchange for something, be it a material good, or a service. Anything is better than you having to slap on the tool belt and get to laying down the hammer!
